Typical work includes: Providing an hour-long briefing to an audit committee on a matter on the agenda, for example, the basics of governance Day-long training on risk, internal controls, general management either as an open course or as a tailored, in-house session, online or in person Observing committees as they work and feeding back to identify areas for improvement Helping audit committees to perform a self-evaluation Working with an organisation  to identify risks, write a risk register and train staff and directors Helping officers and boards to identify their risk appetite Facilitating a strategic objective identification day Supporting an NHS Trust over several months to prepare for its NHSLA inspection Covert or guerilla training directors on risk management, internal controls, governance (in other words, disguising training as high-level facilitation) Undertaking a review of an internal audit service to assess its compliance with internal audit standards, especially the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards (PSIAS) Training and coaching internal auditors Writing and editing key policies and procedures Developing audit and risk methodologies For a list of training and consultancy options, click here
